Firstly, a big, warm, foodie welcome! I'm so pleased you're here. This blog is a bit more about me, my love of food, and what you can expect to find me writing about on here.
A food love story.
You can find a bit of info on who I am on the 'About Me' page but in this post I'll go into a bit more about my passion for food and what you can expect to find on this site as I move through life on one big foodie journey.
I've always been passionate about food. For as long as I can remember it's been a source of enjoyment. Whether it was making 'pies' out of play-dough in my toddler-days, spending an afternoon making chocolate covered peppermint creams with my sister, being allowed to help mum with cooking dinner, or eating out in new restaurants, it's always been something that's brought me joy. There is only one period of time this has not been the case and that is when my relationship with food interfered with my sense of control and I sank into a short period of restriction and calorie-counting obsession. I won't go into this too much for now since I genuinely consider it a time where I was almost completely disconnected from my true self. What I will say is that when I came out of that period it felt like I'd had a blindfold removed and I could see again. I had the opportunity to rebuild my relationship with food and it didn't take long for me to realise my passion for the colourful world that can be created from it.
Above is one of my favourite risottos I've made. I'll tell you the story behind it soon.
Why start a blog now?
You may wonder, since I've claimed 'always' being passionate about food, why I'm only now starting a blog at the age of 29. It's a fair challenge and in hindsight I also wonder why I haven't. I think the simple answer is I've been so happy soaking in all the joys of food that I've barely paused to wonder whether I should channel my passion into something to share with others. It's only recently that I started to listen when friends and family half joked that I might want to think about doing something about it since I talked about it so much. So here we are. After a couple of decades of feeding my passion it's swollen to a point where it's ready to bake. Enter the Hi Foodie Blog.
What can you expect?
This is the beginning of my blogging journey and I'm also curious about what I'll find myself writing about. While I love to cook and eat, there's so much more that I love about the world of food: the stories behind great restaurants, finding new ingredients, exploring the relationship between diet and performance or mental health. There's almost too much to write about! My starting point will be to write about the things that have fed my passion: some restaurants, some chefs, some stories, and we'll see where it goes. But whatever I'm serving up on this blog, I hope you enjoy it.
